Shot on location in the Lake District, UK.

Often overlooked and generally misunderstood, Peatlands cover only 3% of the world's surface yet store twice as much carbon as all the world's forests. Join conservationists and peaty volunteers in the foothills of England’s tallest mountains as they reveal a hidden beauty, in this visual love letter to the world’s largest terrestrial carbon stock.

Framed in the foothills of England’s tallest mountains and the surrounding areas of Eskdale, Matterdale, and Watermillock, beautifully composed master interviews sit between dreamy contextual imagery of fantastical peat bogs, brought to life by delicate sound design and a whimsical score.

Conservationist Mel Sugden, along with her peaty volunteers Jane Beenstock, Una Gordan, and Dave Charles, share their excitement for a place often overlooked and misunderstood. This is a film that uses artistry, emotion, and storytelling to open the conversation with local communities, landowners, and farmers. But above all aims to finally shed a light on these weird and wonderful habitats, to educate as many people as possible on why we should care about and protect them.

Through a “soft sell” approach, 'Bogs' shows how we can change the trajectory of degrading peatlands and inspire action locally and nationally. These perennial record keepers have protected our history for millennia. Now it is our turn to watch over them and share their stories with the world.

The survival of peatlands depends on us. And our survival depends on them.
